“Would You Like To Live Forever?”

(Stories from the Sea Chest or What I Wrote During Augustina Classes)

One time a friend of mine asked me: ‘Would You Like To Live Forever?’ Well, that’s an intriguing question and a fascinating one to explore.

Of course it is curious to see what the future holds for us - new technology, people interacting in a way that now may seem unreachable. The movie ‘Back To The Future’ gives us a couple of interesting perspectives.

When I’m thinking about living forever, it, in some way, implies that you cannot die. Which means you can experience things that your finite life wouldn’t allow otherwise, like jumping from the plane into the ocean and just walking there for a while; because it also means that you can breathe underwater - it’s good to explore different creatures in the depths of the ocean, such as sharks -

although no, I’m changing my mind, probably the sharks is not the best of the ideas to cope with, but for sure there are many peaceful creatures to get to know, like jellyfish, or if we choose the Loch Ness Monster we can explore the depths of Loch Ness by ourselves.

But I think the most curious thing would be seeing the changes in the way people speak to each other, communicate their hearts; although the traditional values are always the same, the state-of-the-art nuances in the way people connect can enrich your vocabulary especially if you are a musician who writes songs and gets inspiration from observing the world.

The downside of the ability to live forever is, of course, the sad reality of losing your relatives through the natural course of life which can leave quite an upsetting mark on your personality over the course of a few generations.

So, I think it’s definitely a good thing to try to live forever on one condition - if you can lose this ability anytime you want. Of course life is for us to experience new things and if we have a chance to live forever even if it’s only for a few hundred years - why shouldn’t we hop on?

in this drawing - the Loch Ness Monster, a very large animal which is supposed to live in Loch Ness, a large, very deep lake in Northern Scotland.

Although some people say that they have seen the monster, its existence has never been proved, and for most people its just a story. It is often shown in pictures as a creature like a long black or green dinosaur, and it is informally called Nessie (Longman Dictionary Of English Language and Culture).
