About

I have a passion for writing, music, English teaching & walking. I am also a bit retro - I don't use mobile phone with internet for instance; I write my book with a pencil and a piece of paper or with a vintage typewriter, and I love every second of it; I don't use public transport as well (whenever possible) or a car, I walk instead.

I was a student at university, an engineer (Kaliningrad State Technical University) but in the 5th year I realized that it was not something my heart had an inclination towards, so I changed the university from technical to the humanities - “Philology and Journalism” - “Art and Humanities”, “Theatrical Directing” and “Spoken English” (Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University).

I wasn’t a natural

I wasn’t a natural, I mean the person who learnt something quickly and naturally... I remember sitting on my balcony with an English book for days on end so I had to kick my 'tail end' to get this knowledge under my belt, and I’d realized that the advantage of this was - when you’d learned something that hadn’t been given to you on a plate, you’d worked on it acquiring the skill - you appreciate it greatly.

But what’s more, I'd realised that it didn’t have to be that hard if you found your own unique way to study, on the contrary, it became an exciting journey.

The teachers refused to understand me

My love for the language led me to a master’s degree in Linguistics—'Theory and Methodology of Teaching Foreign Languages and Cultures' in 2020; I defended my work - “The Magic Of Being Creative or Unorthodox Ways of Connecting Your Passion In Life With English”, with distinction.

The highlights of the whole university graduation was the ending of endless squabbles with the teachers who bluntly refused to understand the peculiarity of my creative mind.

That was one of the moments when I’d realised that my mind liked to be educated in unusual, strange, unique ways, so I started to use this discovery practically, coming up with unusual ways of teaching myself and getting a kick out of the idea that no one else probably used them.

Connecting your passion In life with the language

I think one of the best ways to learn the language is to connect it with your passion in life. Because when you connect learning with something that you love you learn the language more enthusiastically and with a great deal of interest.

So, basically, the secret of conquering the English language lies in expressing your personality using this language - as simple as that.

The mechanics of the language are quite simple

You see, the very mechanics of the language -, they are quite simple - we have words, we have sentences and we have grammar that greases the wheels and a teacher who shows how to use it and puts it all in perspective——bringing the puzzle together, baking the apple pie in the process; but it’s just a tool.

Learning English is like learning music - you need to put your personality into it.

It is very similar to the musicians practising their scales until they are blue in the face to make their fingers stronger but it’s not the music, it’s not the song, your song. To create the song you need to put your personality into it.

But what does it mean - your personality? Well, basically it is everything that forms you as a person. Your opinions, your likes, dislikes, which books you prefer, what you think about politics, a meal that you can’t stand, people you gravitate towards and overall everything that makes you, you.

Finding a unique way for you to study

But everybody’s personality is different which means you need to find a unique way for you to study it and then perfect it—when I’m talking about a unique way, I mean the way that motivates you, challenges you and makes you feel like you can’t get enough of English—and then direct your energy to exploring this particular path.

When I was trying to get to the musical college, I failed three times in a row because I was told to play jazz music and I couldn’t stand jazz, I was more of a on a rock’n’roll side of things besides it felt more comfortable playing the music that I wrote because my own compositions reflected my feelings, emotions, inner world.

That was one of the moments when I’d realised that my mind liked to be educated in unusual, weird, unorthodox ways.

A way of learning that speaks to you

In my class - I’ll show you a few techniques - different ways of studying so that you can pick the one that catches your eye, speaks to you and you think works for you best. Then I ask you a question, perhaps an off-beat one that I’m curious to know about—your la-di-da—and while answering we are gonna be forming a discussion, raking through the topics that you are particularly partial to.

That school teacher who bit our heads off

I’ve noticed that many people struggle with the language because they are afraid of making mistakes—no wonder—there had always been that school teacher who bit our heads off at the mere sight of incorrection; I think we should make mistakes though—the more the merrier—that’s how we learn, you see. We should fail, yes, and then we can learn from our slips of the tongue, so, the more of these little peccadilloes we create the better we become in the long term as long as we learn from these ickle imperfections.

You just can’t stop the music

All in all, my job as a tutor is to tickle the muscle of your curiosity a little bit so that everything that’s on your mind comes out in a charming little form of a new language. So you just can’t stop the music, can’t halt your English ‘blah, blah, blah’, it’s pouring cats and dogs out of you and I’m catching phrases that you are throwing at me, that are but slightly or fatly incorrect and I’m showing you the correct versions at the end of the conversation and explaining the mechanics of the grammar and bringing the varieties of the vocabulary that your particular style is asking for to the table, s June 3, 2023

As you see, my friend, the best way to learn the language is through the story, your story, which is told in a way that reflects your personality and expresses you - your own style and imagination. You - are the most important thing. Everybody has stories to tell and I can’t wait to hear yours - let your story guide you!
