“The Freedom Cannot Be Postponed Any Longer“

(Stories from the Sea Chest or What I Wrote During Augustina Classes)

Freedom, personal freedom. It’s devastating, hypocritical and has nothing to do with current reality. As you very well noticed, freedom seems to be on everybody’s lips, jumping up and down like a yoyo in the hands of a three-year-old toddler.

But let’s look at the facts, a university student can face real challenges when he tries to implement his original methods into his master’s work, because there is no freedom at university. Everything is ruled by the governmental standards which makes it almost impossible to make innovation part of your work.

It is hard to speak about freedom when a group of people within the education union system creates standards making them teachers' priority and placing educators’ unique visions, creative approach and personality far below. Rules following has always been considered as the priority for teachers, which undermines the whole educational system as far as unorthodox original methods are concerned.

Therefore, if we witness a teacher being exceptionally creative during the class we can easily assume that this is only, let me put it this way, amateur freedom of creative techniques because when it comes down to defending teachers’ ideas and views respectively,

they all step back and because, at the end of the day, the government pays them to follow the rules and standards firstly, thus, placing freedom of creativity below and, literally, denying evolution in this respect. That is a declining downside of teaching at university.

If we speak about equal rights, this subject is laughable because there are no equal rights. People with special abilities are constantly called disabled, which is offensive to them and shows us that neither people nor the government care about this problem, exposing the hypocritical nature of the establishment.

In the aspect of law, particularly racism, there has been an improvement but there is so much work to be done yet, with abusive incidents that take place, literally every football match, ending up banning the games and imposing heavy fines on the club administration and sometimes even players.

In conclusion, I think, overall, the sense of freedom in our society has the ground to be optimistic because there are so many more opportunities these days than there had been before, but there is still a long way to go and we need to commit ourselves even more and work in this direction making our personal freedom a priority that cannot be postponed any longer.
