"Music ‘Isolating Method’ Within the Kingdom of English”

(Stories from the Sea Chest or What I Wrote During Augustina Classes) The aim of this proposal is to put forward a new idea or philosophy, so to speak, of running an English class. The current system is outrageously old fashioned and needs implementing innovative techniques. Firstly, instead of talking about the weather and ‘how is it going?’, we can introduce the teaching principle of relevance, where the participants refer to their own experience and build a discussion based on real life situations. Secondly, it is a well-known fact that the way students organize their magic (knowledge) is reflected in how many threads of associations they weave on the inside. For example, it is very natural to grind away at your English in association with music; where letters are represented by notes, words are represented by chords and muscle strength is achieved by playing music scales' parallels within the principle of English Grammar in Use; that is very similar to a musician training his hand muscles, and therefore when we explain English we can create more threads of associations in an eager to learn mental facility. And last, but certainly not least, is that to achieve mastery in English students need to be exposed to the “isolating method”, that is one of the best ways to get this knowledge under your belt; the idea of the method is quite similar to the music - we isolate a certain task and perfect it. As an example, when people sing they often tense muscles around the larynx—their eyes bulge as if their stomachs play tricks on them by overstating their ability to digest a particularly delicious piece of a chewy eight-legged limping oceanic lobster they have just wolfed town to nibble for lunch

intensifying the queue to the nearest overcrowded and overpriced luxurious loo by the breathtaking seaside—which means they train muscles that create singing and also the muscles that have nothing to do with the activity of producing the sound which means part of the energy goes outside of the area that needs to be improved, which is the larynx. This example provides a perfect illustration of how students can use “isolating method” in the context of English learning and therefore directs their focus exactly to the place where necessary changes need to take place to reinforce new linguistic behaviour, and make our English class distinctly recognizable and attractive for new talented creative chaps.
