“Encourage Me, and I Will Love the Language” part II (The Change That Begins in the Mind)

One of the secrets of absorbing the language under your skin and keeping it there is connecting the feeling of enthusiasm with methods that are used in the classroom.

There are so many teachers who demand a lot and at the same time are completely blind with ignorance of bringing no feeling of joy into the classroom dissolving themselves and the poor chaps into over disciplinarian and sometimes too pragmatic stagnation of rigid meticulous pressure cooker of moulding techniques which honestly could be changed in an instance—the change that begins in the mind, remember?—in the classroom.

It just so happened that I had been given a privilege to be a student for a while, in different places, and I was astonished by the size of the creative gap that the current educational system had to offer.

Firstly, the lessons were often very ‘dry’ and lacked the creative approach that the modern world craves these days.

Secondly, the formality of the atmosphere in the class had given me the impression that students were more likely to study actual mannerism rather than the subject itself, which caused an undesirable effect on poor chaps’ minds because they had less opportunity to express themselves completely, freely, confident that they would not be judged for their non run-of-the-mill techniques.

Although the classes had proved to have a good discipline, which could be considered as an advantage, conservatism and intellectual inflexibility due to an exaggerated focus on form rather than the content made me sympathise with pupils and triggered my uncompromised sentiments to bring this voice inside out in the form of original teaching method, and maybe

in some ways, to make an attempt to gain awareness of university officials to such a vital component as creativity and passion and suggest implementing and promoting these elements as an obligatory part of the curriculum which would bond conservatism, discipline and creative spark into one inseparable whole taking education to a whole new level and raising the standards to the place where they belong.
