“A Storytelling Technique In Action”

Two English teachers got into an argument over whose teaching technique is better.

Jessy: You are so pathetic, storytelling technique?! Please!  People these days don’t even open a book, for God’s sake! They are pretty content with automatic local bank Christmas greeting messages! These beetleheads, nit-wits and silly billies have their mobile phones for breakfast, supper and dinner if you know what I mean.

Dori: No, that’s completely wrong. I think, now as never, folks are fascinated with reading, and books. Playing video games exhaust them in a sense so they need some more reliable way of escaping reality.

Jessy: You are so naïve, you live in a cloud, bubblegum pink.

Dori: I think people are dog-tired of mobile phones. They need a change of scenery. I see, more often than not, folks in the streets reading Dostoyevsky, J.K. Rowling, Stephen King.

Jessy: That’s because their battery is over, you dingbat!

Dori: The other day I saw two guys in the park making up stories in English and sharing them with each other, learning in the process.

Jessi: It was probably two loonatics who had escaped mental facility having untangled themselves from the straight jackets and now got bored with the reality and wanting somebody to take them back to their long-sleeved homies.

Dori: And I stopped near the couple and was eavesdropping on them a little bit and their stories had a valid artistic merit.

Jessy: They just remembered their loonybin was serving Russian Tvorojnie Syrniki (Cottage cheese pancakes with raisins) for breakfast so they tried to dial it up to shorten their way back.

Dori: Well, you are being sarcastic. Storytelling technique works wonders especially in English teaching. Even your snide remarks contain a lot of words that can be useful in learning language.

Jessy: Are you saying I’m a barmy old codger like those puffed-up dolts and popinjays in the park?

Dori: No, what I’m saying is that the unique vocabulary you are using in your quest for truth and linguistic meaning can be used in teaching English using storytelling techniques. Argument dismissed.
